What, there's a Malenia movie? I better go watch that. I hope she says her famous line, "I am Malenia, blade of Miquella, and I have never known defeat." Long live the goddess of rot. (on a serious note, my country at least has the sense to not screen the actual movie I am making fun of anywhere)

Some years ago I met an American man in Cape Town at a barber shoppe. While getting shorn we chatted, and he told me that he travels from the US to Cape Town every 2 years to visit the dentist.

Because apparently it worked out cheaper for him to do a whole-ass holiday to a foreign country and pay for the dentist out of pocket, than whatever he had to do back home.

There's a person on Tiktok calling churches in the US to check if any would be willing to feed a hungry baby (=no, basically), and one of them said on the call "benevolence is only for our members", which totally sounds like a line a Leslie Nielsen character might say in a Zucker brothers spoof movie.

Ordering breakfast I see "ceremonial grade matcha" on the menu. Is that like "weapons grade plutonium"?

All the Warhammer* news from last week reminded me how we tend to romanticise things that parade cruelty as strength. Real world examples: Pirates, Vikings, Spartans - all despicable groups of people. And yeah, yeah, in real world politics too, but I am too tired.

* I do love Warhammer for all its horror, but it is important to stay aware of who the bad guys are - pretty much everyone

Enjoying my time with The Outer Worlds 2 so far, but I do miss the crew from the first. The new crew is well written and more invested in the story and the world/factions, like Inez and her company loyalty, whereas the original crew were more written around their quirks and they all had their own shit going on. maybe I just miss having Parvati in the group. Yeah that's probably it.

So, I ask myself, why was I so much more productive in the early 2000s than I am now? Either:
a) I was younger
b) copious amounts of psy-trance

The answer is b.

Watched the new Nine Inch Nails movie. It was fun in places, Audio-visually stunning, but story-wise quite bland and textureless. I'll rewatch at some point at home where I generally have better quality viewing.

All 3 movies have tried to add real world stakes, but I think I prefer the little computer people just having their own struggles and dogma, like the animated show did.

Also, the less abstract it gets, the more we lose that whole "we don't know how computers work so it's basically magic and we'll just make up shit" goofy charm of it.

How is it that Peacemaker season 2 was the most relatable shit I have watched all year?? From the interpersonal stuff to the "state of the world" stuff. Am I at risk of having my face eaten by a dimensional imp?

Decided to do Ludum Dare 58, but then decided to goof off instead. I did however end up building a fully functional parser for my narrative design tool in lua for LÖVE. So not a loss.

For my birthday yesterday I treated myself to a malva pudding, which is the one South African thing I would absolutely say is a must to try when visiting here, if you are into sweet stuff.

A fun SA fact: The Zulu greeting is "sawubona", which literally translates to "I see you". There are a few ways to respond, but a cool one is "shiboka", which more or less means "I exist for you".
